Caring with Pride: a training session on best practice for screening and cancer care in transgender and non-binary patients
(Virtual)
Wednesday 09th October 2024, 13:00 – 14:00
Tuesday 15th October 2024, 13:00 – 14:00
*Only required to attend one session*
Did you know that trans and non-binary patients are not correctly recalled by the national screening recall system? It therefore falls to the clinician at a GP practice to discuss appropriate screening options with this group of patients. Do you feel ready to do this?
NELTraining Hub is pleased to collaborate with OUTpatients, the UK’s LGBTIQ+ cancer charity, to offer Cancer Awareness Sessions for staff from clinical and non-clinical GP teams. These one-hour sessions will be delivered virtually via Microsoft Teams and provide invaluable insights into the unique experiences and needs of LGBTIQ+ patients. This training is for anyone involved in cancer screening, including cervical, breast, and bowel cancer screening. We will also learn about best practices in opportunistic screening, like prostate cancer.
If your practice is participating in the Pride in Practice award programme, this training will complement it well, providing you with plenty of ideas to help your practice achieve a Gold Award. These one-hour sessions will be delivered virtually via Microsoft Teams and provide invaluable insights into the unique experiences and needs of LGBTQI+ patients.
The session will cover:
· How the cancer experience can differ for LGBTQI+ patients
· Understanding LGBTQI+ health disparities and risk factors
· Encouraging LGBTQI+ patients to attend cancer screenings
· The Impact of gender-affirming care on cancer risk and screening eligibility
· Addressing systemic barriers (e.g. screening invitations, handovers)
· Supporting gender re-registration and name changes
· Delivering person-centred care for LGBTQI+ patients
· Creating inclusive and welcoming healthcare environments
Don’t miss this opportunity to enhance your knowledge and deliver more inclusive care to LGBTQI+ patients.
