Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a person-centred counselling style for addressing the common problem of ambivalence about change. North East London Training Hubs have funded limited places for local Health and Social Care workforce to access these courses. The programme will introduce, evidence-based skills and strategies to 1) explore people’s ambivalence to change health damaging behaviours and 2) facilitate positive lifestyle change
The course will provide opportunities to observe and practice the approach in a protected environment. By the end of the course participants will feel able to start using Motivational Interviewing (MI) in their work settings. The course (equivalent to two days) introduces participants to the theory, spirit and principles in using MI to help people make positive change. The training will use a range of methods including didactic teaching, live demonstrations through role play with professional actors, audio, video and coaching. The training will aim to create a curiosity to learn more and develop practice. This course delivery team will include a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) who has worked and trained across a wide range of settings.
The course is valued at £200pp, and this is funded by the Training Hub. It is also CPD accredited and certificates will only be issued following completion of the training. Participants must fully attend all parts of the course and ensure you have a working microphone and camera. Late comers will not be allowed entry. The below cohorts are being delivered via Zoom platform, and learners should ensure device and network enables this prior to registering. Joining instruction will be circulated 48 hours prior to the delivery dates.
