The ASK Workshop (Face To Face)

19 October 2022 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

In just one day (2 half days if online), you can learn how to help a child at risk of suicide become a child with hope for life.

Children are not small adults. So why use approaches designed for adults to help a child? The ASK Workshop (currently only delivered virtually due to the pandemic) is the only suicide prevention workshop that specifically addresses suicide risk in children and gives participants developmentally appropriate strategies and tools to identify young children at risk of suicide and quickly gather and organise key details needed to assess risk and inform safety planning.

What are the learning objectives?

  • Recognise how a child’s understandings of death and suicide may be implicated in risk
  • Become aware of the ways children at risk of suicide communicate their need for help
  • Recognise factors that may increase suicide risk and those that may mitigate it
  • Know how to work with both in order to formulate the basis of a plan for safety
  • Recognise the need to enlist the support of others to develop a plan for safety
  • Understand and be able to meet common challenges in working with parents to facilitate safety

How is the course run?

Workshop process The “ASK” WorkshopTM successfully blends a variety of teaching and learning modalities including mini-lecture, Socratic dialogue, video, small group work, guided simulations, and case studies

You will be required to complete some self paced online study modules prior to the course start date. You will be contacted 7-10 days prior to the course start date with further information regarding this. This is a mandatory for you to participate in the course.
