NEWHAM UPDATE ON STIs WITH FOCUS ON HIV

DESCRIPTION
Newham Training Hub is pleased to invite you to attend this session on Friday 5th November at 13:30pm. 

This session will provide an update on sexual health with a focus on HIV prevention, diagnosis and treatment including the role of General Practice in these areas. Other key issues in sexual health will be discussed and up to date details of current service provision by Barts Health All East Integrated Sexual Health services will be provided.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Be aware of the current service provision by:
    • All East Specialist Integrated Sexual Health service
    • Barts Health HIV service
  • Be aware of the use of the e-service (Sexual Health London) and which patients to refer
  • Know what is in the GP Sexual Health & Contraception enhanced service contract in relation to testing for HIV
  • Know how to refer someone newly diagnosed with HIV
  • Know about current issues in relation to HIV prevention, diagnosis and care including:
    • Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis for HIV infection (PrEP) & how to access it
    • The impact of late diagnosis of HIV & how General Practice can help to reduce this
    • Update on HIV treatment and care
  • Be aware of the following issues in sexual health:
    • Shigella as an STI
    • Congenital syphilis
    • STIs and anti-microbial resistance
